21 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Hi friends –

I can’t believe I am typing this out, but this is my very first blog post out into the universe. How exciting is that? Let me tell you, pretty freaking exciting. This has been such a long time coming, I can’t even tell you.

I have dreamed about having my own blog for literally YEARS. I’ve attempted to create one a few times now, and each time I start out strong, with an idea in my head about building a website, writing down topics, etc. You know all those things you are “supposed” to do. And all the while I plan and plan with my dream in my head and then I get scared and completely stop in my tracks. My “idea” never gets off the ground. I could never understand why exactly, but following my dreams always seemed pointless to me.

It wasn’t until recently, while diving into another Rachel Hollis book (you’re my girl, Rachel!) that I realized what was holding me back. Well, there are a couple of things, but one really big factor that I never thought about before stood out to me. It all comes down to my FEAR. I hate even acknowledging that I let fear get to me, because I do pride myself in being a very strong person, but I really do. Like all the time. I always have this fear, in the back of my head, that if I were to pursue something like this, what are other people going to think of me, or it for that matter? Are they going to judge me? Are they going to think everything I write SUCKS? What if it fails completely?

All of these questions race through my mind (thank you, anxiety) and it literally cripples me into being so afraid of other people’s opinions that I stop chasing my dream. When I type this out, it actually seems so ridiculous, but the fear is a completely real thing. I think A LOT of us struggle with this fear. And if you don’t, I applaud you, because that is freaking amazing!

The second thing that stops me is that I tell myself that no one is really going to care what I have to say or share. The universe is so saturated with bloggers, influencers, etc., that adding myself into the mix is just a stupid idea overall. But then I realized, who really cares? If you think about it, everything that is out there has been done before. Like literally everything. Think about it this way – have you ever tried to tackle a new project or some crazy task that you literally have NO CLUE about and you know that if you hop on Google and type in your question, no matter how random, there will ALWAYS be an answer out there for you? You can literally find a how-to video for everything. Yet people continue to create posts and make blogs to help us “not so skilled” people out, even if there are literally hundreds of answers on a specific topic already. Why you ask? Because everyone has different approaches to things and different ideas that they can bring to the table – better and more efficient ways of doing things – which is what makes this world so MAGICAL!

So just because other people out there might be creating content and sharing their ideas, does not mean it is going to be the exact same as mine. And why not share my unique perspective with the world? What is the harm in that? The only thing telling me to quit before I even get started is myself. So I am finally putting on my big girl pants, being brave and chasing after MY DREAM. Because it’s just that, mine and no one else’s. So I should not care what is out there telling me otherwise.

So with that, now begins the fun part. Diving in head first to introduce myself to those that may not know much about me. This space is going to be where I share anything and everything that is on my mind – from beauty tips, to healthy living & recipes, to ways you can empower yourself. I want to be an open book in this space and hope that along this journey, you are able to connect with me on some level and in turn, share your special gifts with the world. Because that is really my ultimate goal. My Enneagram is a Type 2 with a wing of a 3 (which I will DEFINITELY be doing a blog post on), and my ultimate purpose in life comes from serving others. I want everyone to know that you can pursue anything you put your mind to, no matter how scary it might feel. Sometimes the only thing holding you back is yourself.

And so we have arrived, AGAIN. All of this to say, that I am so glad you are here on this journey with me and I can’t wait to share with you everything that is on my mind. So here it goes…21 Things You Don’t Know About Me:

  1. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Penn State University.
  2. My favorite animal is a chicken – they literally bring so much happiness to my soul.
  3. I had an Otoplasty when I was in 12th grade – if you don’t know what that is, Google it.
  4. I met my husband in a bar, two nights in a row (it was fate!).
  5. I got bit in the back by a German Shepherd when I was younger.
  6. I’m a PA State Licensed Esthetician, so I know a thing or two about skincare ya’ll!
  7. I’ve served in restaurants (both full and part-time) for over 10 years.
  8. My house burned down when I was 13 and we lost pretty much everything. I now have OCD when it comes to unplugging things around my house.
  9. I cannot sleep without a fan at night.
  10. On our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, we randomly met four other couples who were married the same day.
  11. My family vacations in Stone Harbor, NJ every year and we always go to 94th Street beach, regardless of what street our rental is on.
  12. In college, my friends used to play a game called “Who can beat Brittany Boltz at chugging.” (let me just say, no one could).
  13. I would have had two older twin siblings, but they were born into the world prematurely and passed away.
  14. I have never been to Disney World or Land – am I the only one?
  15. I have had six tattoos done in my life – had one removed and covered it back up with another – so I now have five total.
  16. In college I had my tongue and nose pierced – not at the same time.
  17. I am deathly afraid of heights and flying (and spiders).
  18. I used to be fluent in German and even traveled to Germany for two weeks in high school, but sadly I have lost a lot of the language over the years.
  19. I was born in Ohio and lived my first few years of life in the Philippines.
  20. In the Philippines, we had a nanny named Jonah. She was amazing.
  21. When I was a kid, I got run over by one of my Dad’s “friends” (he obviously is no longer one) and he was about two inches or less from crushing my leg. Thankfully, he stopped and I got out with only a few scrapes and bruises and a fear of male drivers.

XOXO – Brittany
